Autumn is by far my favourite season, open fires, cosy blankets and wrapping up whilst the wind is bellowing around the house. But truthfully what makes autumn for me is my home, being out in the cold weather and coming home to a place you feel safe, warm and relaxed is everything. With the night drawing in it’s important to reflect this vibe in your home too.

Here are my tips for a cosy home this Autumn.

Create Visual Warmth

Autumn has to be the most beautiful season of the year. Dramatic sunsets, yellow and brown leaves collecting in the streets, and of course the burnt orange of a pumpkin glowing in your window. It almost goes without saying that the best way to create a warm feeling is with candles.

Candles create a glow that gives the illusion of heat (let’s face it you’re not actually going to stay warm by huddling round one) but they make a huge difference to how a room feels just by the way they glow when they are placed.

The colour of flame as it reflects on the wax and the general ambiance when they are burning is just glorious. My favourite candles at the moment are these exotic themed Black Cedar candles from Gisela Graham.

 Blankets

Blankets and throws can change with the seasons. They allow you to bring in new colours without having to change large pieces of furniture.

Style aside there is nothing nicer than snuggling down on the sofa with a warm drink and a blanket on a rainy evening whatever your age.

Knitted blankets are a favourite but there is also some gorgeous tartan options that can bring a hint of Autumn in to your home.

 Lighting

Lighting is everything in the darker months. Lamps are going to be your best friend.

Main room lighting can be harsh and unforgiving so using table and floor lamps to light up areas in your rooms can really help to create a cosy atmosphere (especially when there is little to no natural light available to rely on).

Edison bulbs are also a great way to soften this down even more. Creating a lovely glow in any lamp and bringing a retro vibe in to your home.

Turning your home into a Autumnal nest for you and your family can be very easy to do. Hopefully with some of these tips you can change the feel and create a cosy place to relax.
